A Review of the Nalanta Bitless Bridle: A Game-Changer for Izzie

I'm always on the lookout for ways to enhance my horse’s comfort and performance and further our connection. I recently decided to try the Nalanta Bitless Bridle—and I’m so glad I did. My mare, Izzie, has always been fussy about her mouth. We went through 7 different bits before we found one that she was comfortable using. Even so, through our rides we've continued to work on relaxation and suppleness in her neck, jaw and mouth. Most recently as we are moving from training level to first level and I'm asking for more thoroughness in her frame she has been even more resistent to taking contact as I "close" the front door while also asking her for more hind end engagement. It's been frustrating for both of us. She has also been increasingly playful in her mouth with the bit, constantly chewing on it and really just fussing with it as a playful distraction. After some research, I landed on the Nalanta Bitless Bridle, designed by Jesse Drent, and it’s been a wonderful.

First off, the quality is impressive. The leather feels durable yet supple, and the gel-padded noseband is a standout feature—soft and comfortable, molding to Izzie’s nose quite nicely, even though it's only been a few rides. It’s clear this bridle was crafted with care, from the sturdy stitching to the elegant design available in black or brown. The fit is another win; with sizes ranging from Shetland to extra full and adjustable side rings, it’s easy to customize for any horse. I did find the sizing to be generous. I went with the full horse size and while it fits nicely, I am close to being on the smallest hose size. The bridle avoids pressure points and stays securely in place without slipping. I also really love the wheel design which allows me to customize where I attach my reins for a different feel.

The real magic, though, is how it’s helped us address her fussiness. I've discovered that Izzie doesn’t naturally soften to bridle pressure, something I've "known" but just sort of glossed over. The bitless bridle has really highlighted this confusion and opened a method of communication that Izzie is really responding The Nalanta’s direct-release system—where rein pressure instantly eases when I relax my hands—has given us a clearer line of communication and one that doesn't evoke any additional resistance from Izzie. Without the bit as a distraction, she’s more focused, and we’re finally working through her tension and confusion together. It’s not just a bridle; it’s a tool that’s brought us closer to harmony. If you’ve got a horse like Izzie, sensitive and bit-distracted, the Nalanta might just be the solution you’ve been searching for. I’m hooked!
